LIBERTY HOMESCHOOL ACADEMY
A CO-OP FOR HOMESCHOOLING FAMILIES

A Christ-centered, classical homeschool community where families learn and grow together.

Mission Statement

We are a classical, Christian community of homeschoolers with students ranging in age from Kindergarten through High School. The goal of classical education is to train our children to be lifelong learners and critical thinkers, with a focus on building, maintaining, and understanding their relationship with their Creator, to each other, and to the world.

Our primary focus at Liberty Homeschool Academy is to equip families and provide them with curriculum, training, tools, and the tenacity to teach their children from home. We emphasize raising children to become lifelong learners and encourage parents to highlight the individual qualities and strengths of each of their children. We meet once weekly for grades K-12 and twice weekly for upper-level math classes and electives. Under the guidance of Academic Advisors, our Parent Teachers provide classroom instruction during our community days. Our Academic Advisors help families with curriculum choices, tips to tailor assignments to meet the needs of each individual student and provide parent-equipping events to empower parents to be successful homeschoolers.

  • 2024-25 School year: We gather one to two days per week depending upon class level (we offer a 2nd day for upper-level math, science, and optional electives). We meet for 12 weeks in the Fall and 18 weeks in the Spring, with breaks scheduled for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring break.
  • Co-op community day schedule: 8:45am: Chapel 9:00 -11:45: Morning classes per schedule 12:25 - 1:05 Lunch 1:10 - 3:30 Afternoon classes per schedule
  • Chapel Time: We open our community days with prayer and family devotions during morning chapel. The family devotional is a short, 10-minute time of sharing what God is doing in each of our families. This is an awesome way for everyone to get to know each other better and for us to learn from and encourage each other.

Learning Atmosphere

Every aspect of LHA functions with a Christian worldview focus, with Jesus at the core of our motivation! It is important for all members to realize that LHA is not a traditional school; it exists primarily as a cooperative association of parents committed to training and educating their children with a Biblical foundation. All classes are taught from a Biblical worldview. We emphasize a one-room schoolhouse concept and currently group grades K-3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-8th, and 9th-12th together. We prefer this approach because it more closely resembles “real-life” situations where individuals interact with people in wide age-ranges at work, church, and in our personal lives. Combining grades allows students at more advanced levels to be shining examples for younger students and allows younger students to have examples to follow.

Parental Authority

Homeschooling parents have full discretion to scale learning to meet the needs of their student(s). LHA teachers and our academic advisory team can assist with the process as parents navigate the school year and develop teaching strategies and schedules for the home environment. Parents are the primary teachers in the home. As a co-op, LHA is committed to coming alongside families to provide the tools necessary for parents to educate children successfully. Additionally, LHA provides parents with a community of like-minded families to support their efforts of Biblically maturing their children. Within the community, student(s) are given the opportunity to share their learning experiences, writing presentations, and art projects with their peers. At all grade levels, students have opportunities to present their work during community days for peer and teacher feedback.

Curriculum Choices:

At the High School level, we offer classes that cover History, Theology, Art, Literature, Philosophy, Geography, Math, Science (to include labs), Spanish, Rhetoric, and a “Life Skills” class (apologetics, finances, budgeting, economics, interview skills, building resumes, computer literacy, and identity in Christ as young men and women).

At the Elementary and Middle School levels, we currently cover History, Geography, Writing, Grammar, Art/Journaling, Science (including labs), and PE.

In addition to these courses, we provide optional electives that include drama, self-defense, STEM learning opportunities, cooking, life skills, and first aid training. Various other electives are also offered as volunteer teachers offer their time and talents.

We gather resources from the following publishers to provide a well-rounded and thorough course structure for K-12th grade: Veritas Press, Memoria Press, Saxon, Masterbooks, Apologia, Story of the World, Institute for Excellence in Writing, and Lost Tools of Writing.

Parent Participation

There is no requirement for every family enrolled to teach a class, however, we require family participation throughout the year. There are a variety of ways for families to meet their family credit participation requirement to include parent snack rotation, organizing field trips, photography and yearbook, curriculum development, electives, cleaning, teaching and teaching assistants.

For students enrolled in grades K-6 a parent or adult-supervisor is required to remain on campus with their student(s). LHA is not a “drop-off” program. Special arrangements can be made at the Middle School level if you cannot stay with your student during community days.

At the High School level, parents are not required to remain on campus, however we require parent involvement because as a homeschooling parent, you are the primary educator of your child(ren).
